LET’S SEE WHAT YOU GOT!

Hey guys, it’s Spencer here. Someone made the big mistake of putting me in charge of something, in this case August’s #SportsVizSunday challenge. Hopefully we all make the most of it! If you’re not familiar with the wave sweeping over the Tableau Nation that is #SportsVizSunday, let me explain.

#SportsVizSunday is a way for Tableau/data viz enthusiasts to participate in a sports focused monthly challenge. Every Sunday, Simon Beaumont, James Smith, and myself will post a few of our favorite sports vizzes that we’ve noticed recently. In addition, on a monthly basis we will post a new data set on our data.world site to the masses ripe for visualizing. This month, it was my turn. With the NBA Finals over, and Major League Baseball in the middle of its season, I didn’t have a subject that stuck out to me. I even turned to the Googles for guidance in terms of a US based sports event in August. Nothing of interest to me returned. So for August we’re going back across the pond for….

EUROPEAN FOOTBALL (SOCCER).

For the past year or so I have been collecting data from http://www.football-data.co.uk/ for the following leagues: English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, and Italy’s Serie A. The data I have posted is from the 1993-94 season until present. I will be updating the data on a weekly basis through the end of the season. I recently developed a Euro football league scoreboard to help me track each league’s table throughout the season, but I am confident that the Tableau sports community can do much better.

Once you have come up with your European football themed viz or insight, please publish the viz to our data.world site and to twitter. Please make sure you tag Simon, James and I myself so we cam share your viz and get back to your with our thoughts and feedback. Thank you all for you participation in #SportsVizSunday, I literally can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!!!
